At IELA we pride ourselves in carefully and personally selecting exceptional host families to ensure the best homestay experience possible for all our students – all potential families are visited and interviewed by Emer/Nicky and all are Garda Vetted. (police background checked)
Students who choose to attend programmes in Sutton and Howth are placed with families located within the beautiful safe and coastal villages and will live within walking distance of their school.
We also work with a large number of friendly families throughout Ireland who enjoy welcoming students into their home and share our goal of providing only high quality host family accommodation.
How do we select our host families?
Some of our host families have children at school; others may have grown-up children. Often they have lived abroad themselves and understand what it is like to be a visitor in a new country where customs and day-to-day life may be unfamiliar. In all cases we look for loving, responsible and friendly families who are committed to the safety and happiness of our students, who appreciate the opportunity to welcome an overseas student into their homes, and share our objective of providing only best homestay experience possible. They are a valued part of our team.
What do our host families provide for our students?
- Provide a friendly, comfortable and safe homestay placement
- Involve the student in family activities
- Liaise with IELA-Dublin with any issues which may arise.
Host families are an integral part of our business and are pivotal to the success of all our programmes. We value all our families and offer a well-informed, highly-organised service to students and families alike.
We value each host family and pay premium rates. In return we win with an exceptional level of service for students and our programme.

How do we match a host family to our student?
We ask the student’s parents to tell us as much as possible about their child’s interests, personality and preferences so that we can look for a host family with whom they will settle in quickly with. In this way we pride ourselves in being one of the best programmes for placing overseas students with the most appropriate host families in Dublin and in Ireland
What does our homestay student accommodation offer?
At IELA-Dublin our objective is to offer only high quality host family accommodation.
Each student on our high school programme will have their own room within our personally selected host family homes. A weekly cleaning (linen, towel and laundry) service is provided. Meals are provided on a full board basis: breakfast, lunch (packed lunch during school term) and dinner. A study desk, chair and lamp are provided as standard in addition to use of household facilities, Wi-Fi, TV etc. Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are mandatory in each host family home.
How do we select the schools for our placement services?
At IELA-Dublin, we are also parents, and so are many of our host families. Not only do we understand that the requirements of each child are unique, we also have an intimate knowledge of all the schools that we have agreements with. In fact, our relationships with those schools have been developed over many years, and through the experiences of our own children, so we know the benefits of each individual school, and can therefore offer the best possible placement for your child.
