Location The Historic-Cultural town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is nestled in the heart of the Guadarrama mountain range, about thirty miles from Madrid. As headquarters to the famous ‘Universidad Complutense de Madrid Summer Courses’, it is visited by respected professors, from some of the most prestigious Universities in the world, as they congregate to give lectures. The town has a population of about 50,000 people, and is located three thousand feet above sea level. It is a haven for ‘Madrileños’ who seek to escape the hot summer heat of the city, in favour of the tranquillity and refreshing climate that San Lorenzo de El Escorial offers.
The Monastery of El Escorial
An architectural gem, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Monastery was commissioned by the Emperor Philip II in the 16th century. It is known internationally as the ‘Eight Wonder of the World’.
Segovia is a World Heritage City, with unique monuments which alone make a visit well worthwhile. However, once in Segovia you will find the city offers much, much more. See the Roman aqueduct, the fairy-tale-castle Alcázar, the Museo de Arte Contempraneo Esteban Vicente, try cochinillo (roasted suckling pig) Segovia’s local dish, the Jewish quarter, outstanding views and a green belt which is ideal for a pleasant stroll in the sunshine.
Toledo – The famous “city of the three cultures” awaits you very near Spain’s capital city. One of the reasons its historic quarter, declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO, is so impressive is because it still has exactly the same layout it had in the Middle Ages. A tour of its narrow streets will reveal an incredible and living monumental site, both inside and out. OOL SCHEDULE
